Sri Lanka firms asked to update staff records over coronavirus crisis
As new COVID-19 cluster climbs to 1591
COLOMBO – Sri Lanka police has asked companies to update the employment records of staff with the current addresses and telephone numbers so that workers can be quickly tracked down if there is a coronavirus infection.
The call comes in the wake of difficulties encountered by the police and intelligence officers in following up on the contacts of the patients in the Minuwangoda cluster, which had grown to 1591 by Tuesday (13), with 145 new COVID-19 positive confirmations. “We are asking all companies to update their employment records,” Deputy Inspector General Ajith Rohana urged, explaining to reporters that when authorities were trying to track down workers of the Minuwangoda Brandix plant, they could not be found at the addresses given and the phone numbers were not working.
“What happens is personnel departments make a file when a person is hired. But when staff members shift, the records are not updated,” DIG Rohana said.
He said almost all workers of the Minuwangod plant were now in quarantine, but claimed there were difficulties in getting information about their contacts as they are in quarantine.
Sri Lanka’s total coronavirus infections grew to 5,038 by Tuesday night.
