Pakistan’s new High Commissioner presents Credentials to Sri Lankan President
COLOMBO – Major General (Retd) Dr Nayyar Naseer formally presented his credentials as Pakistan’s new High Commissioner to Sri Lanka to President Anura Kumar Dissanayake during an official ceremony held at the President’s House on Tuesday (21).
During the meeting, Major General (Retd) Dr Nayyar Naseer conveyed greetings and best wishes from the leadership and people of Pakistan to Sri Lanka and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening long-standing bilateral ties.
He said Pakistan was committed to deepening cooperation with Sri Lanka in areas including trade, defence and cultural exchange.
Major General (Retd) Dr Nayyar Naseer brings more than three decades of military service to the role, having served in the Pakistan Army for 35 years before retiring in 2025.
Commissioned into the infantry in 1990, he held several senior command appointments during his military career, including commanding an infantry battalion during counter-terrorism operations in South Waziristan, leading the Siachen Brigade and commanding an infantry division.
A graduate of the Command and Staff College, the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Quetta, the National Defence University, Islamabad and National Defence University Fort McNair, Washington DC, USA, Major General (Retd) Dr Naseer also served as an instructor at the Pakistan Military Academy and later as Directing Staff and Senior Instructor at the Command and Staff College in Quetta.
A recipient of the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) in recognition of his meritorious services to the nation, he also holds two master’s degrees, an MPhil and a PhD in Governance and Public Policy.
