India, Sri Lanka hold first cybersecurity consultations in Colombo
COLOMBO – India and Sri Lanka held their first cyber consultations in Colombo, focusing on strengthening cooperation in cybersecurity, digitalization and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).
The Indian delegation, comprising Dr Sanjay Bahl, Director General of CERT-In, and Amit Shukla, Joint Secretary for Cyber Diplomacy at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, visited Colombo as part of the broader bilateral partnership on digitalization and emerging technologies.
During the consultations, the delegation met Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne and discussed cybersecurity governance frameworks, emerging challenges posed by AI, and the need for greater exchange of cyber threat assessments and best practices.
The discussions also covered CERT-In’s experience in areas including capacity building and cyber incident response.
The Indian delegation also met Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr Anil Jayantha Fernando, with discussions focusing on cybersecurity cooperation in the context of the shared objective of building a secure financial system and resilient digital economy.
Further discussions were held with Sri Lanka CERT Chairman Thilak Pathirage and CEO Dr Kanishka Karunasena on potential areas of cooperation, including knowledge sharing, capacity building and cyber crisis management.
The two sides also discussed the development of national-level strategies relating to quantum computing and artificial intelligence, as well as opportunities to strengthen institutional cooperation between the two countries in emerging areas of cybersecurity.
