COLOMBO – The US Embassy in Sri Lanka has asked American citizens in the island to remain ‘aware’ and sign up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to get the latest security updates, amidst ‘ongoing developments in the Middle East’.
“We encourage all American citizens to sign up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at http://step.state.gov to get the latest security updates from the nearest US embassy or consulate,” the embassy said in an announcement on its social media page.
“The US Department of State has no higher priority than the safety & security of Americans worldwide,” the embassy said, noting there were commercial travel options that avoid transit through the Middle East region available for those wishing to return to the United States.
“If your travel plans have been affected and you wish to speak with a Consular Officer, walk-in hours are available Monday-Thursday, 1:00–2:00 p.m.” it said, adding, “For urgent assistance or if you cannot visit during these hours, please contact the Embassy’s American Citizen Services Unit +94-11-202-8500 or email us via US Citizens Services Navigator. https://tinyurl.com/ACS-Visa-Navigator.
