1923 – Beer Hall Putsch
Adolf Hitler leads the Nazis in an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the German government. Approximately two thousand Nazis march to the Feldherrnhalle, in the city centre, where they are confronted by a police cordon, resulting in the deaths of 16 Nazi party members and four police officers.Hitler, who is wounded during the clash, escapes immediate arrest and is spirited off to safety in the countryside. After two days, he is arrested and charged with treason.
