Ted Turner’s Cable News Network (CNN), headquartered in Atlanta, began 24-hour live news broadcasts on this day in 1980 and gained worldwide attention in 1991 for its around-the-clock coverage of the Persian Gulf War. Founded by American media proprietor Ted Turner and Reese Schonfeld, it was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage and the first all-news television channel in the United States.
