Landmark 8th hosting set for November 2026

COLOMBO – Sri Lanka is preparing to cement its standing as a premier global hub for experiential travel as Raid Amazones, the world’s leading women-only adventure challenge, returns to the island from November 2–10, 2026.

Hosted in the coastal district of Kalutara, the upcoming edition brings together over 250 international athletes alongside a vast delegation of organizers, media personnel, and support teams.

“The event celebrates exploration, resilience and personal achievement while combining sport, cultural discovery and meaningful connections between participants and host communities,” the Raid Amazones organizers said in a media statement.

Sri Lanka has successfully hosted seven previous editions of the prestigious challenge, in 2004, 2009, 2018, 2019, two distinct sessions in 2022, and most recently in 2023.

Over the past two decades, these events have played a transformative role in showcasing Sri Lanka’s terrain, cultural heritage, and warm hospitality to global audiences, Sri Lanka Tourism Industry stakeholders said.

The 2019 edition held historic weight for the national travel sector, serving as one of the first major international sports and adventure events hosted in the country following the end of the conflict.

Staged across the eastern landscapes of Passikuda, Kalkudah, and Thoppigala, that event signalled to the global travel market that the island was secure, open, and ready to welcome high-profile international visitors.

Founded in 2001 by French media personality and adventure specialist Alexandre Debanne, Raid Amazones combines sports discipline, outdoor endurance, and authentic cultural immersion.

Past host destinations have reaped immense promotional benefits, with previous events generating over 300 international media features across television, print, and digital storytelling platforms, the statement noted, adding, “The 2026 edition will introduce participants to the unique landscapes of Kalutara, where golden beaches, rivers, wetlands, lush forests, rubber plantations and vibrant communities create an ideal setting for this world-renowned adventure challenge”.

Beyond the competition, participants will experience Sri Lanka’s traditions, cuisine and hospitality while taking part in activities designed to test endurance, teamwork and determination, the statement further noted.

Raid Amazones Sri Lanka 2026 will be delivered through a collaborative partnership between Raid Amazones, SriLankan Airlines and Connaissance De Ceylan, with the support of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.  Turyaa Kalutara has come forward as the official accommodation partner.
