Minister Sunil Senevi inspects conservation projects at Jaffna landmarks
COLOMBO – A government delegation led by Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Prof. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi on Thursday (23) visited the historic Jaffna District Secretariat building and the Jaffna Public Library to review heritage conservation and development initiatives.

During the visit, Prof. Senevi provided directions to officials on future conservation and management plans aimed at protecting the landmark while maintaining its historic character.
The inspection was attended by the Director General of the Department of Archaeology, the Governor’s Secretary, Jaffna District Secretary, officials of the Department of Archaeology in Jaffna, the Governor’s Private Secretary and the liaison officer to the Chair of the Jaffna District Coordinating Committee, among other officials.
The delegation later visited the Jaffna Public Library, where they were received by the Deputy Mayor of the Jaffna Municipal Council, the Municipal Commissioner and the Chief Librarian.
During the visit, the minister and the governor reviewed progress on development projects being implemented under the Rs 100 million allocation provided for the library in the latest national budget by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The Chief Librarian briefed the delegation on the ongoing projects, after which the officials conducted an on-site inspection of the work completed to date under the development program.
