COLOMBO – Sri Lanka’s President Anura Dissanayake has met World Bank Vice President for South Asia, Martin Raiser, to secure financial and technical support for several sectors.
The President’s Media Division (PMD) financial and technical support was sought from the World Bank for key initiatives including youth employment, ‘Clean Sri Lanka,’ rural poverty alleviation, and digital transformation.
“We agreed on timely disbursement of funds and explored new projects in education, energy, and public transport,” Dissanayake said on social platform X, referring to the meeting with Raiser.
“I emphasized the need for agricultural sector improvements, enhanced facilities for our population, and plans to boost tourism and expedite port development,” Dissanayake added.
Raiser said he had discussed World Bank support for digital economy, rural and skills development, affordable energy, and lagging regions, with a focus on the North of Sri Lanka,”
The PMD education reforms, northern development, public transport upgrades, and tourism growth for 2025, had also been discussed at the meeting with the World Bank reaffirming commitment to timely disbursement of funds to drive Sri Lanka’s progress.
Raiser also met Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce officials.
