Health Ministry issues revised health guidelines with special restrictions for Western Province
COLOMBO – The Ministry of Health on Sunday (20) issued revised new health guidelines to be followed by the public as travel restrictions are scheduled to be relaxed on Monday (21). The guidelines, effective June 21 to July 5, permit only two individuals to leave the house at any given time and limits the number of passengers in a taxi to two, and 50% seat capacity for public transport in all provinces except the Western Province, where it is restricted to only employees attached to essential services.
Director-General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena, announcing the updated guidelines on Sunday said the situation will be monitored, and if required district level lockdowns will be enforced.
The guidelines also instruct government and private institutions to summon only essential staff members for work, bans wedding, allowing on marriage registrations with 10 people including the bride and groom, and allows for the opening of shops and supermarkets, but with restriction. It also allows for the opening of shopping complexes in all provinces, except the Western Province.
Other highlights include funerals to completed within 24 hours with a maximum of 15 participants; salons to be open, but only one customer to be allowed at a time, and training and exercise allowed for individuals but not teams or team activities. Also not permitted are office meetings in the Western Province, though up to 10 staff members are allowed to meet in other provinces.
Religious places, gyms, hotels, guest houses, restaurants, nightclubs, pubs, and bars will continue to remain closed
