Russia junior energy minister pledges support to Sri Lanka
COLOMBO – Russia has expressed readiness to support Sri Lanka in addressing challenges arising from the ongoing Middle East conflict, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.
It said the assurance came from Russian Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Marshavin during a meeting he had with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo on Thursday (26).
Marshavin is currently on an official visit to the Colombo with a delegation comprising Director of the Department for International Cooperation, Ministry of Energy of Russia Vladimir Khazov, and Deputy Head of the Department for Commercial Development of Mineral Oil-Related Services Projects Sergey Rodin.
According to a PMD statement, Marshavin had, while noting that Moscow has a comprehensive understanding of the economic and energy-related pressures faced by Sri Lanka amid the evolving global crisis, reaffirmed that Russia stands ready to extend assistance across multiple sectors, including energy, technical expertise, machinery, and other forms of cooperation.
President Dissanayake welcoming the visit and expressed confidence that it would further strengthen bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and Russia.
Ambassador of Russia to Sri Lanka Levan S. Dzhagaryan accompanied the delegation to the meeting with President Dissanayake.
