Sri Lanka approves appointments of 10 new envoys
COLOMBO – A parliamentary oversight committee in Sri Lanka has approved the appointments of 10 new envoys to key diplomatic missions abroad, Parliament said.
The appointments were cleared by the Committee on High Posts, which reviews senior public sector and diplomatic nominations before they are finalized.
Among those approved were Dharshana M. Perera as High Commissioner-designate to Malaysia and Dhammika Fernando as High Commissioner-designate to Kenya.
D. M. S. P. Dassanayake was approved as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, while Dayani Mendis will serve as Ambassador and Permanent Representative-designate to Austria.
The committee also cleared the appointment of N. I. D. Paranavitana as Ambassador and Permanent Representative-designate to Ethiopia and the African Union.
Other appointments approved include M. I. Fazeeha Azmi as Ambassador-designate to Iran, S. K. Chandrasiri as Ambassador-designate to Israel, and Anura Withanage as Ambassador-designate to Lebanon.
The committee also approved S. P. W. Pathirana as Ambassador-designate to Romania and M. Farook M. Fawzer as Sri Lanka’s Representative-designate to Palestine.
