1982 - Sidath Wettimuny scores Sri Lanka's 1st Test Cricket century
Sidath Wettimuny, (August 1956 – ) the opening batsman of Sri Lanka cricket team in both Test and One-Day Internationals (ODI) from 1982 to 1987, scored a brilliant 157 in the second Test against Pakistan on this day in1982 becoming the first Sri Lankan to make a century in Tests. With Roy Dias, he added 217 run for second wicket and spent over six hours at the crease, powering Sri Lanka to 454. Sri Lanka eventually drew the Test, failing to bowl Pakistan out in 59 overs, in what was Sri Lanka’s first non-loss in Test cricket.
