Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (1928 –1979), the ninth Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1973 to 1977, was executed on this day in 1979 after being controversially tired by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for authorizing the murder of a political opponent. Bhutto, who was also the founder of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and served as its chairman until his execution in 1979, was deposed in a military coup by his appointed army chief Zia-ul-Haq, before being controversially tried and executed.
