Jaffna Kings Buys Madushanka For A LPL Record $92,000
The reigning champions also swoop on batter Charith Asalanka who fetches $80,000
COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka was bought for a record $92,000 by Jaffna Kings in the inaugural Lanka Premier League (LPL) auction held at the Shangri La Hotel in Colombo on Wednesday.
The reigning champions also swooped on batter Charith Asalanka who became the second highest player at the auction going for $80,000.
Madushanka, 22, who has represented Sri Lanka in 11 T20Is and 2 ODIs, has been in outstanding form for Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the series against South Africa ‘A’ in Pallekele. He was the highest wicket-taker in the three-match unofficial ODI series with nine wickets (avg. 12.33).
Dambulla Aura made the third highest bid for a Sri Lankan player with $76,000 each for Dhananjaya de Silva and Binura Fernando. B-Love Kandy bid $72,000 for Dinesh Chandimal and $70,000 for Sri Lanka’s fast bowling ace Dushmantha Chameera.
Sadeera Samarawickrama (Dambulla Aura) for $68,000, Kamindu Mendis (B-Love Kandy) for $60,000 and Dunith Wellalage (Jaffna Kings) for $56,000 were the other Sri Lankan players to fetch high prices.
The highest overseas players bought were New Zealand’s Chad Bowes ($58,000) by Galle Titans, while Chris Lynn (Jaffna Kings), Ifthikar Ahmed (Colombo Strikers), Noor Ahmed (Dambulla Aura) and Shoaib Malik (Jaffna Kings) went for $50,000 each.
