EducationUSA Fair to connect Sri Lankan students with 11 US universities

COLOMBO ‒ Sri Lankan students will have the opportunity to meet representatives from 11 accredited US colleges and universities at the 2026 EducationUSA University Fair, which will be held in Colombo, Kurunegala and Kandy from September 14 to 17.

The free event, organized by the United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC) in partnership with the US Embassy in Sri Lanka, will provide students and families with direct access to university representatives and information on admissions, scholarships and academic programs.

Students interested in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies will be able to explore programs in high-demand fields, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer science and cybersecurity, biotechnology and other disciplines.

EducationUSA, the US government’s official source of information on higher education in the United States, will also provide students and families with guidance and resources on pursuing studies at American universities.

The fairs are open to prospective students, parents, educators and school administrators. Representatives of the US-SLFC will also provide information on Fulbright scholarships and fellowships available to Sri Lankan citizens.

Participation is free, but advance registration is required.

US.Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Meyer said the fair would showcase the strengths of American higher education and expertise in emerging technologies.

“The United States is the global leader in higher education and innovation, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and biotechnology. We look forward to showcasing that leadership through the US universities participating in this fair and the American expertise they represent across these emerging fields,” he said.

US-SLFC Executive Director Dr Patrick McNamara said the fairs would help create new opportunities for Sri Lankan students while strengthening educational ties between the two countries.

“These fairs connect Sri Lankan students directly with US universities, opening new opportunities for study while strengthening educational ties between our two countries,” he said.

The 11 participating institutions are: The 11 participating institutions are: University of Texas at El Paso, Texas; North Dakota State University, Fargo, North Dakota; University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas; University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont; Bowling Green State University, Ohio; University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee; Fisher College, Boston, Massachusetts; Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan; New York University, New York; Baylor University, Waco, Texas; and Albright College, Reading, Pennsylvania.

The fair will be held in Colombo on September 14, at the Grand Sapphire Ballroom, Courtyard by Marriott Colombo, from 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.

It will then move to Royal International School in Kurunegala on September 16, from 2.15 p.m. to 3.15 p.m., followed by the Kandy City Centre Banquet Hall on September 17, from 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.

Students can register for the event through the US-SLFC website.

EducationUSA provides free counselling services for Sri Lankan students seeking to pursue higher education in the United States. Based at the US-SLFC, its adviser assists prospective students in navigating the application process and exploring study opportunities at more than 4,000 accredited US institutions.

The United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission is an autonomous, bi-national organization established in 1952 and funded by the US Department of State. Over the past seven decades, it has facilitated educational exchanges for more than 2,000 Sri Lankans and Americans.
