Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum marks 30th anniversary, elects new president and executive committee
COLOMBO – The Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum (SLMMF) held its Annual General Meeting and 30th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday (September 27) at the Colombo Post Office Auditorium, marking three decades of service to the media fraternity.
At the AGM, M.B.M. Fairooz, Editor-in-Chief of Vidivelli newspaper, was elected President, with Shums Fahim, Local News Editor of Thinakaran, as Secretary and Kiyas A. Buhary as Treasurer.
Fifteen members were also elected to the Executive Committee. They are Irshad A. Cader, U.L. Mabrook, Rifthy Ali, M.F. Rifas, Ramzi Kuddoos, Ashraf A. Samad, Sameeha Zafeer, Sadiq Shihan, M.A.M. Nilam, Sihar Anees, Jemsith Azeez, S.M. Rizwan, S.N.M. Suhail, A.H.M. Fowzan, and Javid Munawwar.
The anniversary ceremony was chaired by senior journalist and outgoing President N.M. Ameen. Minister of Health and Mass Media and Cabinet Spokesperson Dr Nalinda Jayatissa MP graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Khalid bin Hamud Al Qahtani attended as Guest of Honour. Several distinguished media personalities and well-wishers were also present.
The day’s events also saw the launch of the Sinhala translation of Nabigalarin Samooha Vazhvu by Tamil Nadu Professor M.H. Jawahirullah.
Thirteen veteran journalists were also honoured for their invaluable contributions to the media industry, and financial assistance was provided to ten journalists.
The event not only celebrated the SLMMF’s 30-year journey but also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting journalists and promoting professional excellence in Sri Lanka’s media landscape.
