COLOMBO – In the wake of the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, our country is now at a critical juncture, both in terms of governance and economy. The process of appointing a new President by Parliament is now set to take place on the 20th of this month.
Our public representatives have been entrusted with an enormous duty at this point. We call on them to come together to select the most suitable person for the role, setting aside their party and personal agendas.
We urge the MPs to respect the demand of the citizens to ensure that those who lead the nation are persons of integrity, committed to transparency, accountability and clean politics.
We also hope that following the election of the President, our public representatives would remain united in creating an interim government that represents all, in order to immediately initiate essential reforms including anti-corruption reforms as a matter of priority, to uplift the country.
