PM Harini holds talks with India’s Jaishankar in New Delhi
COLOMBO – Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya met with India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr S. Jaishankar, in New Delhi on Thursday (16), marking a key engagement during her first official visit to India since assuming office.
During the meeting, both sides discussed India’s continued support to Sri Lanka and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of education, technology and capacity building. Strengthening institutional partnerships and expanding training opportunities for Sri Lankan students and professionals were also highlighted as shared priorities.
Dr Amarasuriya arrived in New Delhi earlier in the day, beginning a three-day visit aimed at advancing political, economic and development ties between the two neighbours. She is scheduled to meet a number of senior Indian political leaders to discuss issues of mutual interest and regional collaboration.
The Prime Minister will deliver the keynote address at the NDTV World Summit, jointly organised by NDTV and the Chintan Research Foundation, where she is expected to outline Sri Lanka’s policy direction and engagement with regional partners.
As Education Minister, Dr Amarasuriya will also visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the NITI Aayog, India’s apex public policy think tank, to explore potential collaborative initiatives in education, innovation, research and technology-driven development.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya, who departed Bandaranaike International Airport at around 12:40 a.m. on Thursday, is scheduled to remain in India until October 18.
