COLOMBO – The Ministry of Defence said it has given a two-week extension for returning firearms and ammunition provided to civilians for personal protection.
Last month, all licensees were instructed to return their firearms and ammunition, issued for personal protection, to the Commercial Explosive Firearms and Ammunition Procurement Unit (CEFAP) at the Sri Lanka Navy camp in Welisara before November 7.
“However, in response to requests from various parties, including licensees currently abroad and due to insufficient time to notify all licensees through formal letters, the Ministry of Defence has decided to extend the deadline for the return of firearms and ammunition from 07.11.2024 to 21.11.2024,” the ministry said in a statement.
All licensees will be formally notified of this extension in writing, it added.
