Indian External Affairs Minister on official visit to Sri Lanka
COLOMBO – Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will be arriving in Colombo on Friday (4) on an official visit that will see him paying courtesy calls on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
A statement from the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Jaishankar, who will be accompanied by senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, will also have a meeting with Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Jaishankar will be the first foreign dignitary to meet the President and the Prime Minister their National People’s Power (NPP) won the presidential poll on September 21.
A statement from the Indian High Commission in Colombo said Jaishankar’s visit was in keeping with India’s Neighbourhood First Policy and SAGAR outlook, and underlines the shared commitment of the two countries to further deepen the longstanding partnership for mutual benefit.
Jaishankar met Dissanayake in February this year when the latter was on an official visit to India. Last month, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited Sri Lanka and met key presidential candidates including Dissanayake.
