We are against war, Rajapaksa tells Palestinian envoy
COLOMBO – Former Sri Lankan President, MP Mahinda Rajapaksa, widely credited with ending the country’s civil war, visited the Palestine Embassy in Colombo on Monday (16) to show solidarity with the people of Palestine.
“We are here to express our sorrow for the Palestinian people. I met the Palestinian ambassador to Sri Lanka to discuss the situation,” Rajapaksa told reporters outside the embassy.
Rajapaksa visited Dr Zuhair M. H. Zaid, the Ambassador for Palestine in Sri Lanka to offer his condolences over the death of civilians in Gaza.
“War is not the solution. We are against it. This has to be solved through dialogue,” the former president said.
Traditionally non-aligned Sri Lanka has always supported a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
