Power minister submits parliamentary motion to oust PUCSL chairman
COLOMBO – Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara has submitted a motion to Parliament seeking to remove the head of the power regulator, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).
A ministry official said Wijesekara had submitted his report to Parliament on Tuesday (9), seeking to remove Janaka Rathnayaka, from his post as chairman PUCSL.
The official said the minister’s report was presented in terms of Clause 7 of the Public Utilities Commission Act and that prior to bringing in the motion, a charge sheet had sent to Rantnayake with President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s signature on March 22.
Wijesekera and Ratnayake clashed over price hikes and power cuts, with Earlier Wijesekara vowing earlier this year to bring in a motion against Ratnayake.
