COLOMBO – Sri Lanka’s Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) condemned an attack by a group on a foreign executive of an apparel factory and called for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
A group of individuals, allegedly with the backing of an area politician had attacked the managing director of a Board of Investment – registered apparel factory in Halpe, Katana, after breaking into his residence located at the factory premises. The Omani national is on an “observation tour”, the JAAF said.
A security officer as well as the Omani national had been injured.
“As the apex body of the apparel industry, we condemn such acts of violence,” the JAAF said, calling on the law enforcement authorities to act swiftly and take prompt action to uphold the rule of law and bring the instigators of the attack into custody.
“We empathize with those affected by the incident and request the matter be allowed to reach a peaceful resolution in accordance with the laws of the land,” JAAF said in a statement issued on Sunday (2), adding that “The Joint Apparel Association Forum vehemently condemns this cowardly attack and calls for an impartial investigation and swift legal action from the officials in charge.”
