Probe into Schaffter death takes new turn
COLOMBO – The investigation in to the death of business executive Dinesh Schaffter has taken a new turn following the latest forensic evidence, an official source said Wednesday (18).
A toxicology report has helped detectives establish the cause of death and rule out strangulation as it was initially feared when Schaffter was found at the wheel of his car at the General Cemetery, Kanatta last month.
“We are almost ready to complete the investigation and the courts will be informed accordingly,” the official said.
On legal advice, the details are being withheld in view of the on-going court proceedings.
Detectives have been investigating the possibilities of both suicide and murder.
The official said they had no evidence so far suggesting there was a second person in Schaffter’s car.
He was found with his hands tied at the wheel of his Toyota Camry.
