COLOMBO – Twenty eight migrants from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Eritrea and Pakistan attempting to illegally cross the border into Hungary in two trucks loaded with textile fabrics and metal rods, have been apprehended by Romanian’s Arad police.
SchengenVisaInfo.com, quoting Agerpres, said the migrant were detected at the Nadlac I Border Crossing Point (PTF), during routine checks of trucks about to leave the country. Both trucks had been driven by Romanian nationals.
According to the border police of Arad, 17 foreign nationals from Bangladesh and Eritrea aged 21 to 67, had been detected hidden in a special compartment in the front part of the cargo cabin, during a detailed inspection of a truck transporting textile fabrics on the Romania-Austria borderline.
The identity of the migrants had been determined after they were removed from the truck and transported to the headquarters of the Arad police for further investigation.
Eleven migrants from Sri Lanka and Pakistan, aged between 21 and 42, had been detected in a second a truck loaded with metal bar, also driven by a Romanian national.
Romanian border police have said they are conducting investigations to find out more about the illegal activity.
In November, Romanian border police detected a truck with 26 migrants from Syria and Turkey trying to enter the Schengen area. The truck on that occasion was carrying canisters of hydrochloric acid.
