Irrigation Department said water levels of Kalu Ganga in Kalawellawa and Putupaula areas are still on the rise and asked people in low lying areas to be vigilant regarding possible minor floods.
Officials said several spells of showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Strong winds about 50 km per hour can be expected at times over the western slopes of the Central hills.
In the sea areas, officials asked naval and fishing communities to be vigilant, due to possible increase in swell waves (about 2.0 – 2.5 m) in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
