SJB to launch a protest campaign against the government
COLOMBO– The main opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) held its first-anniversary rally in Colombo on Monday (15) pledging to launch countrywide protests against the government.
Party leader Sajith Premadasa said the SJB will begin protests against the LKR15bn Sugar scam and the massive deforestation caused by the new government.
“Come and join us as we plan 200 protest campaigns,” Premadasa, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, said.
Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka noting that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his brother Basil Rajapaksa’s children are living in the United States, said “When they are finished here they will go there to live.:
The rally at Hyde Park in Colombo drew a large crowd despite COVID-19 restrictions.
The new party, which is made up of former United National Party members, was formed shortly before last year’s Parliamentary General Elections.
