International Flights to Sri Lanka in Steep Take-off
Thai Air Asia resumed flights to Colombo this week.
COLOMBO – Foreign airlines are rapidly increasing frequencies to Sri Lanka and airlines which pulled out during a Coronavirus pandemic and a currency crisis are coming back to the island, Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.
Emirates increased the flights from 14 flights to 28, and Qatar from 21 to 35. Etihad had increased frequencies from 4 to 6 and China Eastern Airlines have increased flights from 01 flight a week to 05 flights a week.
Meanwhile, Air Arabia and Air Asia increased their flights from 7 to 11 to eleven. Air India increased from 16 to 17. Jazeera had three flights and it has increased to four.
Airline companies such as Aerofloat, Malindo, Air China, Alliance Air, Salam Airan and Azur Air have all started to return.
“This is a positive tend in this sector,” Minister de Silva told parliament. “Air Seychelles has also started flying between the two countries.
“Redwings Russia has also started. I have spoken to Nepal and Hong Kong about the introduction of Nepal Air, Cathy Pacific, Air Arabia and Thai Air Asia.”
Thai Air Asia resumed flights to Colombo this week.
Israel Airline is also expected to start operations soon. India’s Alliance Air is to increase flights to daily from the current four from July 15.
Passenger movements are picking up, as flights go up, Minister de Silva said.
In January departures were 216,067 arrivals were 205,691. In May departures 310,249, arrivals were 279,509. – EconomyNext
