COLOMBO – The body of a 46-year old Sri Lankan housemaid allegedly tortured to death in Kuwait is to be repatriated to Sri Lanka, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Relations said, adding that the woman had died at the Amiri Hospital in Kuwait, in the early hours of Thursday (10).
She had been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition by her Kuwaiti sponsor, with burns, cuts and wounds on her body. She had been pronounced dead, a few hours after being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit.
The Dubai-based Gulf News reported that the Kuwaiti sponsor and his wife are being investigated to find out if more were involved in the case when the maid was brought to hospital in critical condition.
it said the body had been referred to the forensics department for a complete report and to determine the circumstances of her torture and death.
Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Relations said the woman’s husband had been contacted and that and he had consented for the remains being sent home after the Forensic examination is over.
