Colombo-based diplomats donate Rs 3.6m in personal contributions to Rebuilding Sri Lanka fund
COLOMBO – Diplomats posted in Colombo have collectively donated LKR 3.6 million in personal contributions to the government’s ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund, extending personal support to relief efforts for communities affected by the recent devastating cyclone.
The contribution was formally presented on Thursday (11) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the Ambassador of Indonesia, Dewi Gustina Tobing, handed over the cheque to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath.
The handover ceremony was attended by several heads of mission and senior diplomatic representatives, including Lee Miyon, Ambassador of South Korea, Dr Siri Walt, Ambassador of Switzerland, Ihab I.M. Khalil, Ambassador of Palestine, Masood Imad, High Commissioner of the Maldives, Said Al Harbi, Charge d’Affaires, Embassy of Oman and Alberto Arcidiacono, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Italy.
Minister Herath, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), announcing the donation, said “I deeply appreciate the immense support and solidarity extended by the diplomatic corps during this challenging time,” noting that such acts of goodwill reflect the strong partnerships and friendships Sri Lanka continues to maintain with the international community.
