‘My Life, My Yoga’ winners felicitated
COLOMBO – National-level winners of the video blogging contest ‘My Life, My Yoga’, organized by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), were felicitated by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), the cultural arm of the High Commission of India, Colombo, on July 23.
The winners in the children’s category included Sumedha Sri Ram Iyengar, Henrietta Adoraa Riandra Basil and Varsha Vinod Kumar Lotus. Other winners from the various categories included Gurucharan Grover, Promod Jain, Sarojini Rajendran, Anupama Grover, and Swara Sumit Nimkar.
Every year the International Day of Yoga is celebrated around the world, with popular gatherings and participation of world leaders and public icons. This year, due to the restrictions in place because of COVID-19 pandemic, the celebration of International Day of Yoga took to the online dimension.
To help Yoga enthusiasts around the world express their skill and love for Yoga safely during the pandemic, the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) organized the video blogging contest open to participants from all countries.
Yoga being immensely popular among Sri Lanka, a large number of entries were received for the competition, out of which eight were shortlisted for international prizes.
The elated winners appreciated the initiative of the Ministry of AYUSH and ICCR for giving yoga enthusiasts from Sri Lanka and rest of the world an opportunity to participate in the competition through online platforms in a safe manner.
Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, highlighted that during the present novel coronavirus pandemic, Yoga has become all the more important, because it affects the respiratory system maximally. He pointed out that a lot of interest is evinced in Yoga and Ayurveda during deliberations between world leaders.
