Pakistan marks 86th National Day in Colombo, reaffirms strong ties with Sri Lanka
COLOMBO – The High Commission of Pakistan in Sri Lanka, together with the Pakistani community, marked the country’s 86th National Day on Monday (23) at the High Commission premises in Colombo with a ceremonial flag-hoisting and reaffirmed commitments to progress and democratic values.
Acting High Commissioner Zunaira Latif hoisted the national flag to the strains of Pakistan’s anthem.
Observed annually on March 23, Pakistan National Day commemorates the Lahore Resolution, which laid the foundation for the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947.
Messages from Asif Ali Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif were read out during the ceremony, underscoring the significance of the occasion and paying tribute to Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
In her address, Latif highlighted the longstanding and cordial relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, noting that bilateral ties continue to be strengthened through cooperation in trade, defence, education, science, and cultural exchange.
She also conveyed greetings and best wishes from the government and people of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, reaffirming the commitment to further deepen engagement between the two countries
