DHAKA – The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Dhaka participated in the Foreign Office Spouses’ Association (FOSA) Charity Bazaar held at the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh on Saturday(7).
The Foreign Office Spouses’ Association hosted the day-long Charity Bazaar to raise funds for humanitarian causes. Established in 1971, the FOSA is a non-political organization operating under the guidance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. The association provides financial support to low-paid employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh to help cover the cost of their children’s education and assist them during times of serious natural disasters and calamities affecting their family members. The Charity Bazaar is FOSA’s largest annual fundraising event.
This year, the event was the participation of over 17 foreign Missions based in Bangladesh including the High Commission of Sri Lanka, and attracted over 2,500 visitors.
The booth of the High Commission of Sri Lanka was organized to promote Sri Lanka tourism and products including Ceylon tea, Ceylon cinnamon, Ceylon black pepper, and Sri Lankan handicrafts. In addition, a few Sri Lankan delicacies were freely distributed to the visitors at the bazaar. There was a robust demand for Ceylon tea and spices from the visitors, who also demonstrated a keen interest in visiting Sri Lanka for tourism purposes.
The proceeds of the Sri Lanka High Commission’s stall were donated to FOSA for its charity projects.
