COLOMBO – Kashmir Youm-e-Istehsal Day was observed by the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo on Monday (5), with keynote speakers highlighting the plight of the Kashmiris living in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The Kashmiri dispute remains one of the oldest unresolved items on the agenda of the UN Security Council, largely blamed on India’s obstinate refusal to honour its commitments and its disrespect for fundamental human rights and international law.
Monday marked five years since India took unilateral actions aimed at altering the internationally recognized disputed status of IIOJK and changing the demographic structure of the occupied territory.
The commemorative event was attended by friends of Pakistan, the diplomatic community and the Pakistani diaspora.
.The Pakistani High Commissioner in Colombo, Major General (Retd) Faheem Ul Aziz HI (M) underscored the oppression and brutalization of innocent Kashmiris through an inhuman military siege, communications blockade, extra-judicial killings and collective punishment of entire communities and neighbourhoods, in violation of human basic rights.
He also noted that the key to durable peace in South Asia is the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
Special messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar were read out for the audience, highlighting the sufferings of the Kashmiris and the resolve of the Government of Pakistan to support the Kashmir cause till it is resolved in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.
