COLOMBO – Over 300 GCE A/L students were awarded the Jinnah Scholarships by the Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka, in a ceremony last week attended by Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs as the Chief Guest and Susil Premajayantha, State Minister of Education Reform, Open Universities & Distance Learning Promotion, as Guest of Honour.
The Jinnah Scholarships have been awarded by the Government of Pakistan for Ordinary and Advanced Level students with exceptional academic achievements since 2006. So far, 2000 Sri Lankan students have benefitted from scholarships, named after Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founding father of Pakistan. Three hundred and four students received the scholarships last week. Pakistan High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Major General (Retd) Muhammad Saad Khattak thanking the guests attending awarding ceremony, emphasized on the importance of the relationship that both Sri Lanka and Pakistan enjoy, and said Pakistan aims at strengthening the strong ties manifolds.
