COLOMBO – Pakistan’s rich Buddhist heritage is on display at the Pakistan Pavilion near Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo, as part of the National celebrations of ‘Buddha Rashmi’ Vesak Festival, 2023.
The soft opening of the Pavilion was held on Wednesday (3), with the participation of President Ranil Wickremesinghi and other high-level dignitaries, including Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both of who also signed the Pakistan Embassy’s ‘Visitors’ book.
On display at the Pavilion are statues of the Fasting Buddha, Preaching Buddha, Meditating Buddha and replicas of many other artefacts indigenous to Pakistan Gandhara Civilization.
Photographs of the 2500 years old Buddhist reserves found during excavations over decades are also part of the exhibition.
A statement from the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo said the Vesak Festival this year brings the two friendly nations closer as 2023 marks the 75th year of the establishment of diplomatic relations and friendly ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The Pakistan Pavilion located next to the Colombo City Centre will remain open for public from May 5 to 7, from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
