BERLIN -Ambassador Manori Unambuwe presented credentials as Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, to the Federal Republic of Germany, to the Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at the Bellevue Castle in Berlin, on August 20.
During the discussions held following the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Unambuwe appreciated the assistance provided to Sri Lanka by Germany over the years and reiterated the commitment of the government of Sri Lanka to further enhance friendly relations between the two countries. Unambuwe also thanked the Federal President for his assistance and goodwill towards Sri Lanka during his tenure as the Federal Foreign Minister.
Unambuwe also briefed Steinmeier of the recently concluded elections in Sri Lanka, saying it was testimony to the trust and confidence the people have placed on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the new government.
Steinmeier extended best wishes to the Unambuwe on her new assignment and assured continuous support in furthering friendly ties between the two countries.
Following the discussions, the Sri Lankan flag was ceremonially hoisted along with the German and European Union flags, despite the stringent restrictions in place due to COVID-19.
