London museums to remember Trump as giant crying baby and golfer
LONDON – Donald Trump has barely made his way out the White House and two London museums are already consigning the 45th US president to history as a massive crybaby and an amateur golfer.
The newest attraction of the Museum of London, a central London tourist attraction that tells the history of the British capital from settlement to modern times, is a blimp depicting Trump as a baby.
The blimp, which hovered in London during Trump’s 2018 state visit to the capital, will now join the museum’s collection on the London’s culture of protest.
“We hope the baby’s place in the museum will stand as a reminder of when London stood against Trump – but will prompt those who see it to examine how they can continue the fight against the politics of hate,” the team who made the balloon said.
“While we’re pleased that the Trump Baby can now be consigned to history along with the man himself, we’re under no illusions that this is the end of the story.”
Museum of London Director Sharon Ament added: “By collecting the baby blimp we can mark the wave of feeling that washed over the city that day and capture a particular moment of resistance … that ultimately shows Londoners banding together in the face of extreme adversity.”
The blimp, created by Imagine Inflatables in Leicestershire, depicts Trump shouting, wearing a diaper and holding a mobile phone. It was flown over Parliament Square during a protest in 2018, which was held in response to the president’s three day state visit in 2019.
The blimp isn’t the only impression Trump has left on London museums, and the city’s Madame Tussauds wax museum has donned its statue of Donald Trump in golfing gear in the wake of his election loss to president-elect Joe Biden.
The outgoing president has had his trademark navy suit and red tie swapped for a lavender-coloured golf shirt and striped trousers paired with his signature red baseball cap.
To make his departure from the White House even more clear, the museum also stood him next to a large bag of golf clubs.
Trump was twice spotted at golf resorts over the weekend when US media finally projected his opponent would win the 2020 presidential election after a tense and drawn-out ballot count in several states.
London museums are currently closed as part of a government-ordered national lockdown aimed at slowing the spread of a more infectious strain of the coronavirus.
