COLOMBO – Sri Lanka will soon make a formal call to investors to develop the Port of Galle for tourism, Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Anura Karunathilaka said.
Discussions have been held with several investors who were already interested in developing Galle Port for tourism, he told Parliament, adding, “We are focusing on developing Galle port as a hub for tourism”.
Acknowledging that the government had received a number of investment proposals, he said a call for interest from investors will be made very soon.
Developing Galle Port for cruise tourism and yachts had been a long-standing plan which has not been carried out yet.
Sri Lanka Ports Authority had earlier sought investors to develop Galle Port with a 150-metre long cruise berth and reclamation to increase land area by 40 hectares, which can be developed.
At the time the project was estimated to cost around 175 million US dollars.
