President calls for unified monitoring division to curb smuggling, corruption
COLOMBO – Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has asked officials of Airport and Aviation Services and Sri Lanka Customs to establish a unified monitoring division to curb drug smuggling, corruption and illegal migration, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said in a press statement on Saturday (28).
The monitoring division should also focus on preventing entry of other prohibited items, irregularities at airports and customs and the unauthorized exit of individuals from the country, the PMD said.
The call was made when the president met with the heads of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka Customs, and the Airport and Aviation Services at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo on Saturday.
The president had also emphasized the need for a practical and modernized process to prevent smuggling, calling for the replacement of the current scanning equipment with advanced scanners.
