HONG KONG – TUI, the German leisure, travel and tourism company said on Wednesday (8) that it will not operate package holidays to Sri Lanka departing up to and on June 30, 2022 following a change in UK Foreign Office (FCDO) guidance on May 13, advising against all but essential travel to the country.
The airline and operator had previously cancelled all breaks to Sri Lanka up until the end of May. A TUI spokesperson said: “We will be proactively contacting all impacted customers in departure date order to discuss their options.”
The cancellations do not apply to customers transiting through Sri Lanka international airport, and TUI has said anyone in resort can continue to enjoy their holiday as planned.
Sri Lanka declared a state of emergency back in April. Since then, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned, while fuel and food shortages have triggered protests and clashes.
