Damro Group’s latest project Marino Mall and Marino Beach Hotel, had its grand opening last week, adding a whole new level of excitement to the Colombo shopping and hospitality scene.
Built on a 2.5-acre plot of land in Colombo 3, with an investment of Rs 12.5 billion, the project adds another 289 star class rooms to Colombo’s hotel inventory and four floors to mall space giving a boost to the hospitality industry.
Damitha Ratnayake, Chairman and Founder of Damro Group, which had invested substantially in the project, elaborated that the mall has four floors of retail stores and that the 12-storey building has three basement car parks with space for 350 vehicles. “It also has two large conference facilities which could accommodate 1,000 guests,” he added.
The Marino Beach Hotel, to be managed and run by 400 staff members under D.R. Hotels (Pvt) Ltd, is similar to Bay Sands Singapore, and boasts of Sri Lanka’s largest roof top infinity swimming pool and a large garden with an entertainment area. It is the first hotel project to have an electronic card entry system to the roof top area. It will also have an Angsana Spa and a night club in the near future.
Encompassing 150,000 square feet of shopping area Marina Mall has several novel tech features that include the Marino Mall 9 D Cinema, Virtual Reality games, other adventure game areas and a climbing wall. It also has a ‘Sea View Food Emporium’ consisting of 10 outlets offering fine cuisine from different regions – Curry Stop [Sri Lankan Cuisine] / Bharat Bhojan [Indian Cuisine] / Western Bay [Western Cuisine] / Middle Eastern [Arabic Cuisine] / Far Eastern [Asian Cuisine], and a coffee shop – Coffee on Ocean. The Labookellie Tea Lounge offers fine Ceylon tea. Other outlets operating at the Mall include Roots (ice cream), Gonuts with Donuts and Royal Cashew.
The mall and hotel are accessible from both the Galle Road and the Marine Drive.
