COLOMBO– Sri Lanka Post on Sunday (25) announced it was halting letter deliveries to the Western Province and post offices in Galle, Batticaloa and Kuliyapitiya until further notice amid an upsurge coronavirus, but said medicines would continue to be distributed.
Many customers in the areas are not accepting letters or parcels, Sri Lanka’s postal chief Ranjith Ariyarante said, adding that the decision was also taken to protect the postmen.
Post offices in the rest of the country will also not accept letters for delivery to the post offices and the central mail exchange in Colombo will also be closed for customers, he said, but assured deliveries of medicine to patients of government hospitals would continue.
The Gampaha district, parts of the capital Colombo and some areas in Kuliyapitiya are under indefinite coronavirus curfew.
