COLOMBO – The Rotaract Club of APIIT is set to conclude its flagship initiative, Project VoiceIT, with a large-scale Closing Ceremony and Awareness Forum on May 13, 2026 at the APIIT Sri Lanka campus. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., the event will bring together representatives from government institutions, law enforcement, civil society organizations, and public figures to address pressing social issues including harassment, abuse, bullying, unsafe relationships, and gender-based violence.
Launched as a youth-led social impact initiative, VoiceIT was designed to tackle sensitive and often underrepresented societal concerns through awareness campaigns, school outreach programs, community-based initiatives, and institutional collaborations. Throughout the year, the project successfully conducted awareness sessions in schools, community engagement programs, and online educational sessions aimed at creating safer and more informed spaces for young people and the wider public.
In addition to its awareness programs, VoiceIT also carried out a public transportation sticker campaign to increase visibility around issues of harassment and abuse while promoting reporting mechanisms and access to support systems. Beyond awareness, the initiative extended into direct victim support through its collaboration with the SAMBOL Foundation, helping connect individuals affected by abuse and violence with real assistance, guidance, and support services.
The organizers state that the initiative focused not only on awareness, but also on encouraging responsible reporting, promoting safer environments, and ensuring individuals know where to seek help when needed.
