Sri Lanka to launch unified website platform for diplomatic missions
COLOMBO – A common website platform will be created for all Sri Lankan diplomatic missions and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in place of existing outdated websites, ministry spokesperson Thushara Rodrigo told journalists on Tuesday (18).
Responding to concerns raised in Parliament on Monday (17) by opposition lawmakers about the government’s outdated and non-functional official websites, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the problems stem from obsolete technology used across government and diplomatic mission web portals.
Rodrigo said the issues reflected long-standing technical limitations. Some websites may no longer be available if updates are carried out, he said, adding that the government will introduce a unified platform to resolve these technical challenges and standardize all MFA and mission websites.
According to Rodrigo, the initiative is being carried out on the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism as part of the government’s wider digitalization program.
