AIS Innovation Expo 2025: A celebration of creativity and purpose
The Archimedes International School (AIS) brought the spirit of innovation to life with the successful hosting of the AIS Innovation Expo 2025 at the Bandarawela Town Hall on July 18, 2025. The event marked a milestone in the academic calendar, capping off a year-long exploration of the theme ‘Innovation’, which was woven into every level of the school’s curriculum.
Held under the banner of creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, the Expo served as a vibrant platform for students – especially those in the primary grades – to showcase their grasp of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) through hands-on, co-curricular projects.
The exhibition featured a range of inventive projects aimed at tackling real-world problems, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, global challenges, and improving everyday life. These simplified yet impactful focus areas encouraged students to craft practical solutions while enhancing their research, collaboration, and communication skills.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Khalid Sher, Chairman of AIS, who attended as Chief Guest. Walid Sher, Director of AIS, and Wathsaridu Karunarathna, Principal of AIS, were also present alongside Guests of Honour Kalinga Gunawardhane, Lecturer at the Department of Computing and Information Systems, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka; Nishantha Kumarasiri, HQI of Bandarawela Police; Arul Karki, journalist with Earth Journalism Network; and J.A.C.D. Jayasinghe (Mrs) of the Bandarawela Municipal Council.
A key highlight of the day was the Student Innovation Competition, which included both individual and group entries. A panel of judges from academic and professional sectors assessed submissions based on originality, feasibility, social relevance, and potential impact. The most outstanding innovations received awards in recognition of their creativity and social utility.

Beyond the competition, the Expo created an interactive space for students to engage with visitors, fellow students from other schools, and members of the public. These interactions not only allowed students to articulate their ideas but also offered opportunities for meaningful feedback and broader community engagement.
The AIS Innovation Expo 2025 was more than just a showcase—it was a celebration of youthful potential, the power of ideas, and the school’s vision of empowering the next generation of changemakers. With this successful event, Archimedes International School continues to reinforce its reputation as a forward-thinking institution dedicated to preparing students for the challenges of tomorrow.
