COLOMBO — Over 80% of the postal vote has been cast for Sri Lanka’s September 21 presidential election, Deputy Postmaster General (Operations) Rajitha K. Ranasinghe told reporters on Friday (6). He said packets containing marked postal votes have been sent to their relevant post offices.
“As of now, the postal department has received a lot of registered and secured packets containing marked ballot papers. These are now being distributed to relevant returning officers,” he said.
Ranasinghe said over 89% of postal votes have been cast.
Sri Lanka’s presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 21.
Postal voting started on Wednesday (4) and is held over three days.
District Secretary for the Colombo Prasanna Ginige told reporters that the district saw a postal voter turnout of over 95%.
“There were no reports of violence or any incident of note,” he said.
Ginige added that anyone unable to cast his postal vote can do so on September 11 and 12 at the district election office.
