COLOMBO – India’s rich Buddhist heritage went on display at the Sri Sambodhi Maha Viharaya in Colombo, on Sunday (24) as Sri Lanka observed Medin Poya.
The exhibition, organized by the High Commission of India in Colombo, has on display a series of photographs showcasing significant episodes from the life of the Buddha and some of the prominent Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India.
This is the second in the mobile exhibition series being showcased by the High Commission in temples at different Buddhist places of worship on every Poya day this year.
The inaugural exhibit was held at Kalutara Bodhi on Navam Poya on February 23, 2024.
A statement from the High Commission of India in Colombo on Sunday said the exhibition underlines the India-Sri Lanka deep cultural connection and shared heritage and history while promoting the shared objective of advancing the people-to-people ties to strengthen age-old bonds of friendship and cooperation.
It said Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, who visited the Sri Sambodhi Maha Viharaya on Sunday and took a walk-through of the exhibition, had joined the Pooja ceremony along with the Chief Prelate of the Sri Sambodhi Viharaya and Chairperson of ‘Bauddhaya’ TV Channel Ven. Boralande Wajiragnana Thera.
