Ranil attends Berlin Global Dialogue
COLOMBO – President Ranil Wickremesinghe left the island to participate in the Berlin Global Dialogue in Germany, his office said in a statement.
The Berlin Global Dialogue is a global forum which unites leaders from business and policy from many countries in a bid to find solutions to current geopolitical and economic challenges.
The two day conference takes place on September 28-29 with heads of state, foreign ministers and global experts in economic policy and finance from around the world participating, as well as executives of major international companies and key officials.
Wickremesinghe will deliver the inaugural address at the heads of state dialogue.
Wickremesinghe has been on a whirlwind expedition to several global events – including the G77 meet in Cuba and the UN General Assembly in New Work – in a bid to shore up support for the country, with expectations running high for favourable outcomes.
At a recent Board of Investment event, state minister of Investment Promotion Dilum Amunugama said that when he was in Bangladesh recently, many had commended the nation’s emergence from the economic crisis and some had asked, “Is your president lucky, or is he working hard? For you to come out of this in 9 months?”
Despite opposition criticism of Wickremesinghe’s foreign visits, some point out that the trips are of paramount importance to the nation, strengthening trust in Sri Lanka on the global stage through productive discussions with world leaders.
